THE RENTAL HOUSING ACT, 1999 (ACT NO 50 OF 1999) AS AMENDED

The Act seeks to regulate the relationship between tenants and landlords by ensuring that there is an amicable dispute resolution mechanism in the rental housing sector.

The National Department of Human Settlements has published the final draft Rental Housing Tribunal Regulations in consultation with the Rental Housing Tribunals in all 9 (Nine) Provinces in terms of section 15 of the Rental Housing Act, 1999 (Act No 50 of 1999) as amended, for public comments in the government gazette.

The Department is calling upon all the Provincial Rental Housing Tribunals, Provincial Departments, Municipalities, Tenants and Landlords, Social Housing Sector, Property and Rental Practitioners, members of the public, Civil Society, Community Based Organisations, companies or any other parties interested in rental housing matters to participate and comment on these draft Regulations .

To support and enhance the public comment process, the Department of Human Settlements will hold public information sessions as set out in the schedule hereunder.
