In REBOSA Reports

FFC 2021 Deadline

This serves as a reminder that the deadline for renewal and payment of 2021 FFCs is 31 October 2020.

We are aware of the slow response in the issuing of FFC’s and are monitoring the situation.

Illegal charging of penalties and fees

Rebosa has lodged a formal complaint against the calculation of the 2019-20 fees which are not raised in terms of the current regulation.  We believe the schedule of fees cannot exceed the amount stipulated in the Regulation of the Department of Human Settlements dated 26 February 2016 and have submitted a legal opinion which confirms same.

We have also raised an objection that some of the fees were increased by nearly 10%, more than double the CPI figure of 4,5%.

There is also no provision in the Act or any of the regulations which empowers the EAAB to impose any penalty on any person for failing to notify the EAAB that they have stopped acting as an estate agent.  When such estate agents endeavour to renew their FFCs, the EAAB illegally penalises them iro of all the months during which they did not operate as estate agents.

The EAAB has now formally responded to our legal opinion and are requesting their own legal opinion in this regard.

Further information can be found in an article published in the Property Professional.

Professional Indemnity Cover for Agents

Rebosa has approached the EAAB to reinstate this cover for agents.  We have scheduled another meeting with the CEO on 3 November and hope to have feedback then.

Guide to PoPI for Estate Agents

Following requests from our members for a guideline on how to implement PoPI in their estate agency firms, we are pleased to provide you with a comprehensive manual which is attached.

Maryna Botha – Director at STBB spent considerable time and effort drafting this manual for Rebosa and we thank her for her efforts.

Enrolment to Write the Online Based Professional Designation Examination on 19 November 2020

Enrolment to write the PDE exam is now open.  All enrolments must be completed via the MyEAAB portal available on the EAAB website www.eaab.org.za  Deadline for payment is 31 October 2020 and no late payments will be accepted.

All future exams will be conducted strictly via the new online Exam platform. Thus there will no longer be venue-based examinations.

The prospective examination candidates who enrol and make payments before 31 October 2020 will be communicated their examination seat numbers by no later than the first week of November (these will also be loaded on MyEAAB portal for viewing by examination candidates).

All examination candidates issued with the examination seat numbers will also have an opportunity to have a tour into the new online Exam system in order to ensure that all enrolled examination candidates are ready and conversant with the functionality. The link of the new system will be emailed to all enrolled candidates during the first week of November (the link will be emailed to those who would have already received the examination seat numbers).
